Paving sealant is used to add further protection to stones by inhibiting staining, reducing weed growth, and if used on block paving, stabilising the joining sand that sits between blocks and slabs. It can also prevent dirty water marks, which even when cleaned can give a perpetually dirty appearance to the stone.

Most paving materials will require sealant to keep them in the best condition for as long as possible. It is not advised that you apply sealant until you have given ample time for efflorescence (salts found within the rock) to migrate and collect on the surface of your stone. This could take anywhere between 12 weeks to 6 months.

Once you have thoroughly cleaned away any efflorescence, you can apply a paving sealant to your patio or driveway. Paving sealant can either be colour enhancing or invisible- the choice is yours.

Colour enhancers deepen the colour of the stone and makes the slabs pop with colour. This helps dark colours look deeper and lighter colour variations look brighter- giving a unique finish to every patio. Invisible sealers, on the other hand, do not affect the colour and simply add a layer of protection to the stone.
